And I don't mean as in you don't belong here, but go play WoW for comparison sake. I played Wow from Beta to only 4 months ago. That's over 3 years of commitement and I don't really regret it. However WoW requires X amount of time per week or you don't advance, I used to be a 'casual raider' which meant for 10 hours a week I raided. That's great and I got some really good items, however sometimes you can't do 10 hours a week or do it consistenly and then you get pushed into the second group or even have to drop out entirely.
Eve is alot better and frankly while it's not perfect at least i only at most have to log on maybe twice a week for 2 hours and I still can skill up. Moreover you think isk is bad? Try running an instance a 100 times (i kid you not) for the 1 thing you need only to get out bid, that's WoW for you and it gets incredibly boring,
The fact is in ANY MMORPG you'll never catch the people that joined before otherwise those that did would get fed up and leave however you can at least catch up partially by focusing your skilling.
As for your isk for sp idea that would so imbalance eve that it would just be horrible.
lets be serious here. casual raiders never have and never will have a place in wow. they make up the stock of idiots that spam the forums with rick roll links.
if you wanted to be even DECENT at pvp (not good... decent. enough to break even on a battleground) you needed to have MANY, MANY epics, very high quality blues, or you needed to be extremely skilled at pvp.
ALL of those involve hardcore raiding (for those of you who dont know, raiding like its your second job is hardcore) or hardcore farming (farming honor like its your second job).
We're talking 40 hours a week, every week of the year, to even be good enough to compete with the veteran players.
In Eve, you can set your skills to train for 5-30+ days at a time, and it will even rack up SP while you're asleep.
To the op: Go waste your life on WoW for 2 1/2 years, then come back and I guarantee your perception of this game wil change... greatly.
Also, after 4 months or so you'll be able to be very good at pvp, considering you've trained right, got the right fits, and know how to fight. 9 months will put you into a bad-arse ship you've specialized in and can do serious damage with.
If you played WoW for 9 months as often as you play Eve, you will be sitting in Alterac Valley counting the number of times that warrior with the "I took 140 man-hours to farm this sword" sword kills you.
Conclusion: EVE skill training system is a god-send. Plan your skill training times effectively and in a few short, casually played months, you'll be chewin gum and kickin butt, even of 60-mil-SP characters. (unless theyre in a carrier)
